Deliverance Church – Kenya is a Pentecostal Charismatic ministry founded in response to the global charismatic movement of the early 1970s, with an apostolic focus. It draws its mission from Luke 4:18-19, emphasizing preaching, healing, deliverance, and freedom through Christ.
Deliverance Church – Eldoret was established in 1988 by Bishop Dr. George Gichana, beginning with fewer than 50 members and growing to over 1,500. Since its founding, the church has planted over 80 churches across Western Kenya and the North Rift region.
The charismatic revival began in 1969–70, particularly among students in Kenya and Uganda, led by Apostle Dr. Joe Kayo. Eldoret’s church began with gospel films, rallies, seminars, and prayer meetings, initially meeting in Eldoret Town Hall, later moving to Mosop Hall, and eventually to its own three-acre property acquired in 1996.
Despite humble beginnings—sometimes holding services under trees or tents during construction—the church expanded rapidly. It collaborated with notable gospel musicians, evangelists, and international partners such as Egon Falk, Reinhardt Bonnke, and Alan Vincent. Prominent Kenyan church leaders also supported the ministry’s growth.
The church now owns land, buildings, a sanctuary, a nursery and primary school, a clinic, and ministry vehicles. It also broadcasts on radio and TV, reaching thousands weekly, and has expanded its ministry internationally to Europe, the U.S., Australia, Asia, and Africa.
Looking ahead, Deliverance Church – Eldoret remains committed to church planting, leadership development, evangelism, and sharing the unchanging gospel of Christ with relevance and strategic impact.
