This centre is located at the Praise Celebration Centre –
Deliverance Church Eldoret under the Rapha Community Development
Programme. The Rapha Education Centre is a project that addresses
the educational needs of the community in and around the Deliverance
Church Eldoret.
|
| Rationale
for starting Rapha Education Centre |
::
The area/region where this school is located does not
have schools if any which emphasize Christian character building
for children. Most schools are public and have their main focus
on secular education. Rapha emphasizes the overall development
of a child not withstanding the high academic achievements.
:: The Deliverance Church members
themselves (over 2000 members have shown a definite desire to
have the school run by the Church. A recent survey showed that
the members seriously wanted their children to learn in this
school. This survey revealed that parents want a Christian school,
which would charge affordable fees and at the same time offer
quality education from nursery to secondary school level. Most
of them have sacrificed their meager resources in seeing that
this school is on foot. They have also availed their children
to the school. |
| The
objectives of the Education Centre are:- |
::
To offer high quality education based on the approved Ministry
of Education Science and Technology School curricula at a reasonable
price. :: To provide an environment
for the children to develop the character of Jesus Christ through
learning and socialization with each other according to Biblical
principles. :: To bring up children
who are all round; academically sound and also fear God.
:: To provide an opportunity for every
child to develop their talents to a full potential especially
those who are orphans and destitute. ::
To be a centre of excellence in Nursery, Primary and Secondary
school education based on Christian principles.
|
| Structure
of the Rapha Education Centre |
Currently
the Centre has a full nursery school and a primary school
running up to Class Four according to the Kenyan 8-4-4 system.
The Center still nurtures a vision of growing into a secondary
school
Nursery school.
This has a full Nursery school based on the Kenya Ministry
of Education Science and Technology pattern. An Early Childhood
Development teacher is the head. This section has three levels.
:: Baby class. This has the children who
are 3 years old and facilities to take care of them for the
whole day.
:: Middle class. This has children who are 4 years
old and have graduated from Baby class.
:: Pre-unit class. This is the senior Nursery
school class having children of age 5 who must have graduated
from the middle class. The fees payable to Rapha Education
Centre per child per year is Ksh. 17,700 (US Dollars 227).
This includes transport for the pupil to and from home and
all meals.
|
| Primary
School |
This
section has Class 1 to 6 based on the Kenya Ministry of Education
Science and Technology pattern. It offers secular education
but with an emphasis on the Christian character development.
It is managed as a private school and headed by a Christian
P1.
The classes will be: :: Standard 1. This
registers children who graduate from pre-unit class and with
the age of 6 years. Admissions to this class are based on merit
and the chances available. :: Standard
2,3,4. This registers children who graduate from standard 1,2,3,
respectively and having corresponding ages 7 to 9.
The fees payable to Rapha Education Centre per child per year
will is Kshs. 30,600 (US Dollars 392) including transport and
meals.
Currently this school has: - :: 4
classrooms (former Sunday school classes given by the Church
for the school. :: Small play ground (hopes
to acquire enough land later) Classes 5 to 8 will gradually
be developed on the basis of unit cost i.e. providing resources
per individual child. |
| Secondary
school |
This
will have a full secondary school based on the Ministry of Education
Science and Technology pattern. It will take children of ages
14 running up to age 17 for leavers. A Bachelor of Education
degree holder or one with additional qualifications will head
it.
Currently this Secondary school is not yet in place but when
developed will have at least a single stream from Form one to
Form four. |
| Setbacks |
::
Most children are destitute and orphans therefore unable
to pay their school fees to enable the standard running of the
school. ::Due to the poor payment
of the school fees, the school faces difficulties in paying
the current 9 teachers and 5 subordinate staff members.
:: Currently the school needs to construct
extra classrooms to cater for its growth as the current Class
4 pupils have to be admitted in Class 5 come next year (2005)
:: The transport system is not reliable,
as the school needs a school Vehicle that will be used to transport
the children to and from home. Currently the school is using
an old and small church van that has been outnumbered by the
pupils.

| To
the Vision Supporters |
One
can be of great help to this vision through-: ::
Offering to pay the school fees of a single pupil for the year
or term. :: Providing advice ::
Offering to buy text books for the school ::
Offering to buy the school equipment.
Any other help that would forge forth the vision. |
